Project Funding

The Garden of Surging Waves

is presented as a component of

a larger redevelopment project focused on

Heritage Square in downtown Astoria-

the block bound by Duane, Exchange,

11th and 12th Streets

Funds for the Garden of Surging Waves

have come from the City of Astoria,

federal grants,

and hundreds of contributions from individuals,

families, companies and other organizations.

While construction of the Garden is complete,

there will be ongoing needs for maintenance

and for care of the landscaping.

Total expenses on the Garden of Surging Waves were $2,055,600.

Staff’s low estimate for the proposed open space is

$3,800,000,

so he wanted to know what staff planned to put in the pit.

Director Cronin said the total cost

divided by the square footage of the

Garden of Surging Waves was about $156 per square foot.

Ms. McCann added that with a contingency,

the open space at Heritage Square

would cost between $130 and $145 per square foot.
